Unpleasant thought

During my bible reading/quiet time today, I had an unpleasant thought, but one that strikes me as true, and I'm hoping for your feedback on it.

"Most of the evil perpetuated by those who do not follow Christ, can be laid at the feet of Christians who failed to love."

Leave a comment if you agree, disagree or if you just think that I'm a nutcase...

I believe that statement is true. Our love of God should make us want to reach out to others rather than set us apart from them. Going back to your sermon at NC3 "Make Us Irreplaceable" public opinion of Christians as a whole is that we are judgmental hippocrites who try to force our "values" on those who are different than us. These perceptions in some cases are with merit based on traditional churches pointing out what we do in our in our lives that does not conform to God's law and how we need to change. On the other hand some members of the church do as they wish 6 days a week and ask for forgiveness on Sunday.

I think a better way of going about it is pointing out that we are all sinners and not worthy of God's grace. That puts us in a place where we are all equal and not judgmental and focuses what is really important, God loves us and even though we are not worthy of his grace he gives it to us anyway. We as Christians should think of ourselves as role models and make that our top priority. A welcoming, compassionate attitude towards a fellow sinner would help us reach out to others and better serve what is actually God's values, not our own.
